Buying Guide
Scent ropes make deer hunting way easier. They bring deer right to your spot.
Last hunting season, I tried a new mock scrape rope for the first time. A young buck walked up to check the scent 25 minutes after I hung it. Over the next three days, three different bucks visited that same spot. I got my best buck of the year using that simple rope.
Here are the key things to check before you buy:
– Material: Hemp and jute are the best materials for scent ropes. They hold deer scent well and are safe for the woods. Skip ropes with strong chemical coatings that scare deer off.
– Length & Size: 30 to 31 inch ropes work for almost all mock scrapes. Thicker ropes hold more scent and last longer. Shorter ropes fit easily in your hunting bag.
– Absorbency & Scent Release: Highly absorbent ropes lock in your deer attractant for hours. They let scent out slowly so deer stay interested. Ropes that dry too fast don’t work well in rain or damp weather.
– Included Accessories: Some kits come with pre-attached paracord for easy hanging. Others include scent concentrate so you don’t need to buy it extra. Packs with multiple ropes let you set up scrapes in different spots.
– Durability: Look for ropes with reinforced ends to stop fraying. Weather-resistant material holds up in rain, snow, and hot sun. Good ropes last for many hunting seasons.
– Ease of Use: Ropes with pre-frayed ends need no extra work before use. Loops on the end make hanging fast and simple. Easy to use ropes save you time before you climb your stand.
